This wine came in my Christmas box and I opened it thinking I'd probably end up using it for cooking. It was actually quite nice and tasty. A pleasant surprise. Ignore the date on the photo, I forgot to take it when I opened the wine.

I'm not sure about this wine. The bouquet is good, but it dies quickly. The taste is smoother than I expected, but again dies away quickly. I'm finding that some sips I enjoy, others not so much. Strange.
No me convence este vino. Tiene un olor bueno, pero desaparece en seguida. Tiene un sabor más suave de lo que esperaba, pero también desaparece en seguida. Algunos sorbos me gustan, otros no tanto. Muy extraño.

Viña Carrasses Crianza 2003 - Valencia (17/4/07)

I discovered this wine at the Fair for Valencian wines and cured meats. It's a very good wine and I bought 2 bottles at 8 Euros per bottle. Speaking to the person at the stand, he said people complained about the price, but said that if he sold the same wine with a Ribera del Duero label he could have asked for double the price and no one would have complained. I agree with him. People are snobs. Valencia has some quite excellent wines.
Descubrí este vino en la Feria de Vinos y Embutidos Valencianos. Es un vino muy bueno y compré 2 botellas a 8 euros cada una. Hablando con la persona de la exposición, me comentó que la gente se quejaba del precio, pero dijo que si vendiera el mismo vino, pero con una etiqueta de Ribera del Duero podría venderlo al doble de precio y nadie se hubiera quejado. Estoy de acuerdo con él. La gente es muy esnob. Valencia tiene unos vinos excelentes.

The third bottle of the evening (see below). In spite of Gigondas' fame, I don't really like them that much. I find them too classical (light red, transparent) and too rough.

La tercera botella de la noche (ver abajo). A pesar de la fama de Gigondas, no me gustan mucho sus vinos. Son demasiado clásicos (rojo ligero, transparente) y demasiado ásperos.

Claudio came round with his brother Edgar for dinner in Vacqueyras and he brought several bottles of wine. This was the first we opened which was very good. We ate charcoal-grilled steak and roasted vegetables.

Claudio vino a cenar con su hermano Edgar a Vacqueyras y trajo varias botellas de vino. Esta fue la primera que abrimos que estuvo muy bien. Cenamos entrecot a la brasa y verduras al horno.

On holiday in Provence we stayed in Vacqueyras. We bought this wine from a "Cave" and enjoyed it very much.
De vacaciones en Provenza nos quedamos en Vacqueyras. Compramos este vino de una "Cava" y lo disfrutamos mucho.

We also opened a bottle of Domain de la Colline Saint-Jean which you can see in the picture on the right, but whose label is just above.

Publish PostI discovered this wine at a Fair for Valencian wines and cured meats in Valencia on 1/4/07. It's quite spectacular and well worth the 10 Euros per bottle. I drank a bottle in the afternoon with Villar and Pepe.

Vaqueyras 2003 (27/1/07)

A quite delicious French wine, red. Given to me by Claude. I opened it at lunchtime with the idea to drinking half of it today and maybe half tonight or tomorrow. I finished it within 2 hours. I drank this wine with a chick pea, sausage and "garrofón" stew I'd made, whilst I watched Luton Town vs Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup. Rovers won 0-4.

Un tinto delicioso francés. Me lo dió Claudio. Lo abrí a la hora de comer con la idea de beber la mitad hoy y quizá la otra mitad esta noche o mañana. Lo acabé en 2 horas. Tomé este vino con un estofado de garbanzos, salachichas y garrofón que hice yo, mientras veía Luton Town contra Blackburn Rovers en la Copa Inglesa. Ganamos 0-4.
